March 30th, 2009

After over one and a half years of constructing molds, machining various parts etc., I am please to announce the completion of the prototype 1:3.5 Wilga. First test flights were conducted on Thusday, March 26th on a windy, low overcast day at the Ft.Worth Thunderbird field in Benbrook TX. The first flight was all I could hope for, completely uneventfull. The only weak point was shown on the first landing, the tailwheel control was non-existent and 2.5 degrees of right thrust was too much. I constructed a sturdier tailwheel and decreased the amount of right thrust to 1 degree. Flights since then make it apparent that the corrections were spot on, and ground handling has been compared to a big pussycat. In flight, the Wilga is very stable and shows no bad tendencies. All control surfaces are solidly effective, providing a control feel that can be compared to a big trainer. The Wilga assembles at the field with 3 screws, and you only need a hex driver for one of them! My Goal was to create a standoff scale tug which was user friendly in all aspects. From durability to ease of transport and field assembly, I feel I have accomplished my goal.

The prototype Wilga shown in the pictures below was loosly painted after the Full Scale Wilga shown on the left.

here are the details

PZL Wilga 35A ARF kit contents and details.

As time permits I will build a limited number of Wilga models. The Fuse construction consists of a fiberglass fuse with carbon reinforcement in the fuse stringers, engine compartment and fuse longerons. The fuse hatch and motor mount is constructed out of fiberglass. The fuse slat is molded out of carbon cloth and fiberglass. The cowl and Scoop are molded out of fiberglass. Only the best quality S-Glass and Carbon in used during molding and only the best MGS epoxy is used for the layups. The wings and elevator are foam/glass/obeci sandwich construction. The rudder is balsa sheeted foam. I will install all of the formers, mount the gear, align the wings and stab, hinge all control surfaces, paint and cover the model and install all the windows. If you place an order before I paint, I will gladly paint and cover in your chosen paint scheme for a small surcharge due to paint cost. I use only the best PPG fiberglass primer and basecoat/clearcoat paint. All custom vinyl decals will be applied under the clearcoat. If you purchase the radio gear and engine through HKM-USA , I will gladly install the gear for you free of charge. As you can tell, I have spared no expense and have taken no shortcuts. You should do the same. I highly recomend the following high quality digital servos from JR, and emcotec dpsi for the Wilga.

Elevator DS8711 (1@ $140 ea.)

Ailerons, Flaps, Rudder DS 8411 (5 @$115 ea.)

Tailwheel, Throttle, tow-release DS 821 (3@ $30 ea.)

Emcotec DPSI 2001 RV Power distribution unit (1 @ $299EA.) Note:This is not required with the new JR R922 or R1222 powersafe recievers

The following Pictures show some of the custom molding and machining that is included in the PZL Wilga 35A

Wilga Gear detail

Functional Shock absorbing landing gear.

True to scale in function, this custom machined landing gear is intrical to the appearance of the distinctive Wilga look.

Wilga Cowl Scoop

Cowl Scoop

This small addition to the cowl completes the look in the engine compartment of the Wilga

Wilga Fuse Slat

Slat on the fuse section

The Slat is constructed out of Carbon cloth and Fiberglass and pins in between the wings during assembly. No screws. An air gap between the slat and the fuse permits air to flow in between the slat and the windshield, to prevent the slat from blanking out the elevator during high angles af attack.

Wilga Step

Wilga Step R

Scale Steps

Jig built out of stainless steel tubing and welded, the slightly different left and right steps make for a sturdy scale accessorie that greatly adds to the scale appearance of the Wilga.

Molded Engine mount

Molded Engine mount

Molded for proper spacing and lacation to the cowl, the engine mount is designed to spread load energy evenly over the forward engine compartment to reduce load stress.

Tail wheel detail

Custom machined tailwheel

I designed the tailwheel for function and durability

MLG Fairing

Custom gear fairings

Made from aircaft aluminum, the fairings comlete the wilga Gear look.
